USS Ling Runs Silent in Hackensack

It’s sad and hopeless looking sight to see – a U.S. Naval submarine mired in the muck of a river not deep enough to allow for its draft when the ship is on the surface. The vessel is the USS Ling, a 312-foot long, 2,500-ton veteran of World War II, which now rests on the silty bottom of Hackensack River in Hackensack. Continue reading

Haunted Hindenburg Hangar at Lakehurst

The Hindenburg disaster took place over 77 years ago as the German zeppelin caught fire and was destroyed during its attempt to dock with its mooring mast at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station, killing 36 people. Some say that reverberations of the tragic event, of a paranormal nature, can still be felt around the Lakehurst Naval Base to this day––especially in Hangar No. 1. Continue reading
